In the film, the Bicycle Thief, the theme can be interpreted as being that life is rarely fair, and you can be let down even if you're a good person. The sc ene that best expressed the over all theme of the movie is the last one, in which Antono attempts to steal a bicycle as a final desperate act. Antonino is surrounded by bicycles in the scene, as though they are mocking him. He has come to a point where if he is not able to locate his own bicycle, or find another, he will be unable to retain his job and provide for his family. After he steals the bicycle, he is immidetely spotted and chased down. He is captured but released, the owner of the bike realizing that Antonio "Has enough problems".The fact that he is pushed to a point where he is desperate enough to steal from someone that diserved to be stolen from no more than him communicates the theme and also that he is captured.
